What is MEDDPICC?
Updated Oct 25, 2026
Definition
MEDDPICC is a sales qualification framework for complex B2B deals. Each letter is something the seller needs to know to judge whether a deal will close: Metrics, Economic buyer, Decision criteria, Decision process, Paper process, Identify pain, Champion and Competition.
What each letter means
- Metrics: the measurable results the buyer wants.
- Economic buyer: the person who can approve the budget.
- Decision criteria: how the buyer will compare options.
- Decision process: the steps and people involved in deciding.
- Paper process: legal, security and purchasing steps to sign.
- Identify pain: the business problem driving the purchase.
- Champion: someone inside the buyer's company who pushes for you.
- Competition: the other options the buyer is considering, including doing nothing.
Why sellers use it
It shows which parts of a deal are known and which are guesses. A missing Economic buyer or Paper process is a common reason forecast deals slip.
How Acta fills in MEDDPICC from your calls
Acta's MEDDPICC template writes a report after each sales call, filling in each field from what the buyer said and showing the fields the call didn't cover, so you know what to ask next time. There are also BANT, SPIN and SPICED templates, and the notes can go to HubSpot, Salesforce or Zoho CRM.

What's the difference between MEDDIC and MEDDPICC?
MEDDPICC adds Paper process and Competition to the original MEDDIC framework.
Is MEDDPICC better than BANT?
For large deals with many people involved, MEDDPICC gives more detail. BANT (Budget, Authority, Need, Timeline) is quicker and suits simpler sales.
