Can a Chrome extension record a meeting in the Zoom or Teams app?

Short answer

Yes. With the Acta Chrome extension, click the Acta icon on any tab that isn't a meeting and choose Record a Zoom or Teams app meeting, then Start recording, Entire screen, and switch on Also share system audio so other people's voices are recorded. To skip the share step, use the Acta desktop app instead.

How to do it with Acta

  1. 1

    Join in the app

Join the meeting in the Zoom or Teams app.

  2. 2

    Open Acta in Chrome

Click the Acta icon and choose Record a Zoom or Teams app meeting.

  3. 3

    Share system audio

Click Start recording, choose Entire screen and switch on Also share system audio.

  4. 4

    Read the notes

When you stop, open the meeting in Acta for the transcript and summary.

What you get

  • Needs Chrome 116 or newer
  • Shortcut: Alt+Shift+R
  • No bot in the meeting
  • The desktop app does it without sharing

Good to know

It says the meeting sound isn't shared

Keep the system or tab audio switch on when Chrome asks. Without the meeting sound Acta doesn't start, and says what to change.

Which is easier for app meetings?

The Acta desktop app: it notices Zoom and Teams meetings by itself and records without a share step.
